In his first engagement since arriving in Canberra, Mr Sim Seungseob ADML (Retd), Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Korea to Australia, paid his respect to the Australian Korean War veterans by laying a wreath at the Australian National Korean War Memorial on 6 August 2024.
Australia was the second country among the UN forces to dispatch troops from all three armed forces to the Korean War to defend the peace and freedom on the Korean Peninsula. The valor of Australian forces was instrumental in some of the key battles such the Battles of Kapyong and Maryangsan.
We will never forget the noble sacrifices and dedication of some 17,000 Australian men and women in uniform. Their legacy laid the foundation of the strong bonds of friendship and trust, forged in blood on battlefield, that our two countries share today.
